Activists Protest Lollapalooza 2022 Over Youth Curfew


On Thursday (July 28), the opening day of Lollapalooza 2022, a bunch of activists protested the competition over Chicago’s ongoing youth curfew, as CBS Information stories. The group included members of GoodKids MadCity and the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council. A letter to the town calling for the order to be rescinded claimed the measure was unconstitutional and disproportionately affected Black and brown teenagers.

The weekend curfew was not too long ago rolled again from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. by the Chicago Metropolis Council after a 16-year-old named Seandell Holliday was shot and killed throughout a big gathering in Millennium Park in Could. Whereas the ordinance applies to anybody beneath 18, however attendees of ticketed occasions—comparable to Lollapalooza—are exempt, a loophole that activists say unfairly advantages rich vacationers and white suburban teenagers whereas penalizing Black and Brown youth.
